The Invisible Director
Direct subjects without awkward posing language. Just the words that work.
“I told a grown man to “chin down, shoulders back, tilt your head toward the light.” He did all three at once and looked like he was being arrested. His wife laughed. He didn't. I died a little. Every posing word I knew made it worse.”
You've been told to memorize posing prompts — a script of angles and chin placements. Scripts make people feel operated on. Nobody relaxes while being assembled.
People don't freeze because they're unphotogenic. They freeze because you're giving them body-part instructions, and no human knows what their own chin is doing. The brain understands actions, not anatomy. One verb — walk, lean, laugh — produces a better pose than ten adjustments, because the body already knows how to do verbs.
“Stop posing people, Decoder. Give them something to do, and photograph them doing it.”— CYNETIS-7
Your subjects start moving, breathing, actually looking like themselves. The awkwardness evaporates because there's nothing to perform — just something to do. You didn't need a posing guide or a shot list. You needed verbs.
“The best direction is the kind nobody notices.”
