Common fixes
What fixes the Z50 II's known surprises — detection that dips in N-Log, U modes that forget, tighter 4K 60p and a flash that won't fire?
Detection that goes quiet
Subject-detection performance may drop during high-speed frame capture +, with [HLG] selected for tone mode, and when either HLG or N-Log is the tone mode for H.265 10-bit video — the guide states it outright. If the camera seems not to find a subject at C30 or in N-Log, that is the documented behavior, not a fault. When detection matters most, shoot SDR; when the log file matters most, name the exact category and give detection a Wide-area zone.
The U mode that holds only what was saved
U1–U3 recall only what was explicitly stored via Setup Menu → [Save user settings]; the guide documents no auto-update behavior, and there is no [Recall shooting functions (hold)] on this body. Stale banks are the default failure mode: after editing at a U position, run Save user settings for that position again, or the dial hands you the setup as it was last stored.
4K 60p frames tighter — and steadies less
4K 60p/50p are recorded at an angle of view equivalent to approximately 1.5 times that of a normal DX video, while 4K 30p and below use the full DX width — same lens, two framings, chosen by frame rate. Electronic VR is also fixed at OFF at exactly those sizes (and at FHD 120p/100p, in slow-motion, and whenever Hi-Res Zoom is on). For full width and electronic steadiness, shoot 30p.
The flash that will not fire
[Silent mode] [ON] (Setup Menu) disables the built-in and external flash, forces the electronic shutter regardless of d6 [Shutter type], and disables [Long exposure NR] and [Photo flicker reduction] — three separate 'why did that stop working' answers on one switch. Turn it OFF and raise the flash with the pop-up control. The built-in flash itself: guide number about 7 m at ISO 100, [Flash control mode (built-in)] TTL or Manual, and no auto FP — 1/250 s is its sync ceiling.
Film the N-Log/SDR pair and feel detection change pace. Re-save a U position after an edit. Shoot the 30p/60p comparison from one spot. Toggle Silent mode once with the flash raised — then leave every setting where the fix put it.
