What are the right video settings on the Fujifilm X100VI — 6.2K, F-Log, and the built-in ND filter?

The answer — share this
Movie mode lives in the DRIVE menu — there is no STILL/MOVIE switch on this body. 6.2K is 16:9 only, and every codec is Long GOP: H.265 4:2:2 10-bit is the top file type, and there is no ALL-Intra here. F-Log floors at ISO 500, F-Log2 at ISO 1000. The built-in ND filter — 4 EV, one selector-hold away — is what holds a 1/50-second shutter in daylight, and heat, not a timer, is what ends long takes.
Mode: DRIVE/DELETE → MOVIE  ·  Codec: MOVIE SETTING → MEDIA REC SETTING → H.265 4:2:2 MOV  ·  Log: MOVIE SETTING → F-Log/HLG RECORDING → F-Log2 (ISO 1000+)  ·  ND: MOVIE SETTING → ND FILTER → ON  ·  Heat: SET UP → POWER MANAGEMENT → AUTO POWER OFF TEMP. → HIGH

Decision 1

Movie mode is a menu choice

MENU→DRIVE/DELETE button→MOVIE

There is no STILL/MOVIE switch: press DRIVE/DELETE and select MOVIE. The camera defaults to program AE with focus mode C, records from the shutter button, and automatically switches the finder from OVF to EVF during recording. MOVIE MODE’s classes: 6.2K is 16:9 only; High-quality 4K, 4K and Full HD offer 16:9 or 17:9. Frame rates run 23.98P / 24P / 25P / 29.97P / 50P / 59.94P, varying by mode. HIGH SPEED REC shoots Full HD at 100P / 120P / 200P / 240P with a separate playback rate — recorded with no sound.

Decision 2

Codecs: Long GOP only

MENU→MOVIE SETTING→MEDIA REC SETTING

Four file types record to the card: H.264 4:2:0 MOV or MP4 (8-bit), H.265 4:2:0 MOV (10-bit), and H.265 4:2:2 MOV (10-bit), at 50 / 100 / 200 Mbps. Every one is Long GOP — there is no ALL-Intra recording on this body, unlike the X-T5’s H.265 ALL-I 422. Log floors at F-Log/HLG RECORDING: F-Log restricts sensitivity to ISO 500–12800, F-Log2 to ISO 1000–12800. FIX MOVIE CROP MAGNIFICATION can pin the movie crop at 1.25:1 so crops match across settings.

Decision 3

The ND holds your shutter

MENU→MOVIE SETTING→ND FILTER

The built-in ND FILTER cuts exposure by 4 EV and works during movie recording — it is the tool that holds a 1/50-second shutter at 24P in full daylight without surrendering your aperture. Fastest switch: rotate-and-hold the viewfinder selector (its factory assignment). Stabilization for movies is F IS MODE: IBIS, IBIS + DIS (digital help, with the crop adjusted to compensate for more severe shake), or OFF; F IS MODE BOOST suits shots with no panning.

Decision 4

Heat is the real limit

MENU→SET UP→POWER MANAGEMENT→AUTO POWER OFF TEMP.

The manual states no per-movie minute cap — recordings over an hour continue across multiple files without interruption. The honest limits: the NP-W126S gives roughly 45 minutes of actual 4K recording per charge at 59.94 fps (about 70 minutes continuance), and heat — the camera warns, then automatically turns off to protect itself. AUTO POWER OFF TEMP. set to HIGH extends recording time; the manual pairs HIGH with a tripod and a low-temperature-burn warning. No fan accessory exists for this body.

Try it now

At noon: movie mode, 24P, 1/50 shutter — shoot once with the ND off and once with it on, and compare what each version cost the picture. Then try F-Log2 and find its ISO 1000 floor.
